On certain days, my husband and I usually walked home from the office (yes we walk from Paseo de Roxas to Makati fire station because at times we left our car, our very good taxi drivers kept ignoring us or sometimes ask P30+ added to plug down rate! anyways that’s a different story) On Fridays, we can't help but wonder why there were always tents arranged at the Velasquez Park in Salcedo Village.

Not until it was featured in one of the docu-talk shows of GMA 7 that we learned that a flea market is operating at the Velasquez Park every Saturdays.
Eager, we checked the place today. Tourists, expats and locals flocked to this open air tiange. We even saw local celebrities rushing to the place. Shoppers were mostly from the elite residents who normally live in the exclusive condominiums and subdivisions of Makati. You will find a different group of vendors here---extra polite, english-speaking, some were foreigners too. How about the price? The prices were ok; I find it not really cheap as compared to other markets in the Metro.

There were also many cooked-food stalls in this market place; also, tables were set-up in the middle of the park where you could eat. According to one vendor there, some of the customers eat their breakfast or lunch in the park. Other items you could find are flowers, plants, fruits, and native products and delicacies.

Velasquez Park is located in Salcedo Village, Makati City (in front of Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf). Flea market opens only every Saturdays.

....every philippine provinves cities towns and baranggays should have an open FLEA MARKET like this one in salcedo village makati....beautifully artistically lined decent huge commercial tents of plants ornaments souvenirs and food displays are the best way to 'start' early entrepreneurships erly livelihood activities sort of filipino-ness WAY of expressing their individual self independence
velasquez park FLEA MARKET should open doors to all pilipinos as their main BAYAN OPEN MARKETS one way to 'truly' appreciate HAPPINESS is through NATURE SHARING of all so many healthy things filipinos creativities 'designs' be it a cuisine specialty fresh flower arrangements gardenings landscaping sculptures or handcrafts in personnal or home items etc may god & nature bless the thriving fast pace filipino cultures
i wonder why majorities of filipinos do not have that MUCH COURAGE to 'grouped' together in their community roads corners plaza's opening this kind of WEEK ENDS 'businesses' in their neighborhoods? meaning they're missing the BEST FUN IN LIFE lol
Seems that there have been constructive discussions about Velasquez Park Flea Market (check out Anton’s blog http://www.ourawesomeplanet.com/awesome/2008/07/awesome-journ-1.html#comments for their comments).
I also share the yearning to have an open FLEA MARKET in every community. This would definitely provide more buy and sell options to people and open opportunities to small business and home-based entrepreneurs. Plus we could boast our culture by selling more pinoy crafts just like before. Gone are the days when we still mingle with our “kapitbahay” and join community-related activities with them. I’m learning a lot from all of your inputs. And it has been overwhelming. Please keep your thoughts coming.
Thanks so much!
who's organizing this event,details pls.
