I have heard of Tam-Awan Village for so many times but I have never been to that place. It was only last Saturday as we day tour Baguio City again with our guests friends when I get the chance to visit this community. Here’s what I learned about Tam-Awan Village:
In 1998, The Chanum Foundation was founded. This foundation envisioned a place that will be an ideal venue for art and cultural activities and aims to enhance the appreciation of Cordillera life, culture, and history – that is Tam-Awan Village.
Tam-Awan Village served as a model village for people like me who has not traveled to Cordillera in the Philippines. One exciting thing about this village is they also provide lodging for guests to experience how it was like living in an authentic Ifugao Huts even for just couple of days. It's very educational especially for Filipinos who never had a clue of a village life.
Also, Tam-Awan Village is not just about sight-seeing and picture taking. There are a lot of things you can do inside this place. Here are the complete features and activities of Tam-Awan Village:
- Accommodation
- Venue for Conference, Seminars & Workshop
- Dap-ay (stone-paved gathering place)
- Art Gallery and Crafts Shop
- Coffee Shop
- Wishing Pond
- Indigenous Flora and Fauna
- Eco-tours
- Sunset-Viewing
- Art Workshops
- Camping
- Livelihood and Crafts Demonstration (Printmaking, Wood Carving, Bamboo Craft, Rice Wine Making, Solar Drawing, Drawing and Painting)
- Interaction with the Tam-Awan Village Artists, including visiting local and international artists
- Cultural Shows
You can also have your portrait drawn and signed by the Tam-Awan Village Artists for a cheap price of P100, and that’s already three different version of your portrait by three artists.
Here are some Rates Information. I hope it will help you plan to visit this village when you're in Baguio:
