For this part of my tour story, I will be sharing with you three of the must-see historical sites of Bohol. I never knew some places in this island could be this interesting. It's still good to learn after all!
The Baclayon Church and Museum was founded by the Jesuit Missionaries in 1595 and is the second oldest church in the Philippines, next to San Agustin Church in Intramuros, Manila. Despite of its age, it still looked beautiful to me, being the best preserved stone church in the Philippines. The church museum showcased life size images of saints, crystal chandeliers, and important relics which was important in the historic Roman Catholic religion.
The Baclayon Church and Museum is only 7 kms away from Tagbilaran City. There is an entrance fee of P25 per person for the museum. Picture taking is only allowed inside the church, but not in the museum.

Another historical site in Bohol is the Blood Compact Shrine. Tagbilaran City is also famous for being the place of the First Treaty of Friendship where Spanish King Miguel Lopez de Legazpi had a blood compact with Bohol native Datu Sikatuna. The blood compact is an old ritual where two people drink each other’s blood to seal a friendship or to seal any agreement. It is called Sandugo in Tagalog language.
Today, this monument is one of the places visited if you’re into an island tour of Bohol. Incidentally, Tagbilaran City has become the annual host of the month-long Sandugo Festival in Bohol which features grand street party, trade fairs, and exhibits.
And lastly, at about 14 kms west of Tagbilaran City, the Punta Cruz Watch Tower can be located. History said that this watch tower was built in 1796 to serve as a lookout against prowling pirates. Today however, the site where the triangular watch tower stand not only provided scenic view to both tourists and locals, but also served as a great location for picnic and picture taking.
