Ask the Bol-anons about the must-visit restaurants in Bohol, and they will surely recommend Jo’s Chicken Inato – Payag.
Aside from Loboc River’s Floating Restaurant which is another popular place for food trip in this province, Jo’s Payag is also a sure hit! Payag in Bohol local dialect is “bahay kubo” in tagalog, meaning “nipa hut”. Surely, this humble restaurant which can be found in Tagbilaran City is another place that would remind you of your home. The restaurant is artistically designed with rooster figurines, wooden furnitures, even art paintings, decorated tastefully all over the place.
Of course, you can tell by its name that Jo serves delectable chicken dishes. Chicken Inato is their specialty, a barbecued chicken marinated the Bohol way. I liked it, it’s like a different version of Chicken Inasal. The taste is also unique. Paul and I tried their Super Inato Combo – a combination of quarter chicken, a pork barbecue, rice and atchara. The food was satisfying for only P90 per serving.
I’m not sure if I missed some other food joint in Tagbilaran, or even in Panglao. However, in my opinion, Jo’s Chicken Inato, is so far, one of the best-looking, deliciously affordable restaurants we have seen during our entire Bohol tour.

We have recently visited Bohol. And we have heard of Payag from friends who visited the place. It surely is a must-visit place in Tagbilaran. They have great interiors. The chicken display indeed is a must-see as well. I talked to the owner, Mrs. Milagrina Bongcac and she said that some of her collection of the roosters and hens are gifts from friends and from her travels abroad. You can also see that the food are notonly great, they are also affordable. And the servers are friendly.
